What is BSides?

Each BSides is a community-driven framework for building events for and by information security community members.  The goal is to expand the spectrum of conversation beyond the traditional confines of space and time.  It creates opportunities for individuals to both present and participate in an intimate atmosphere that encourages collaboration. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants. It is where conversations about the next-big-thing are happening. 

Our History

BSides started as a small gathering of people who gathered to attend some of the rejected presentations from Black Hat USA in 2009. The movement grew out of a desire to remove barriers of entry and create a community of active participants. We believe that creating a strong, welcoming, local community makes it easier for everyone to participate in the security community and enables great things. This movement has now grown to 715 BSides events in 197 cities spanning 55 countries, and the number of events continues to grow as participants realize they can create a community anywhere in the world.

While every BSides event is unique and independently run, all are committed to being a community-organized, volunteer-driven, and corporately-funded forum for expanding the spectrum of information security conversation.

BSides Vancouver was first held in 2013 and grew to draw in 700+ attendees before COVID slowed things down. After a few years of virtual conferences, we're excited to be back in person to share another great conference with everyone!

It's not possible to hold BSides Vancouver without the support of our sponsors. Just as BSides Vancouver facilitates a forum for participants to engage with the security community, sponsorship provides a way for sponsors to engage with the local Vancouver security community.

Vancouver is home to a vibrant community of infosec professionals who are passionate about security. BSides Vancouver is a way for your students to directly engage with this community and meet the teams and companies that call Vancouver home. This is a great networking event for students who are looking for their first job after graduation. 

Recognition for your support of the local community

BSides Vancouver and the Vancouver information security community are made possible through the generous donations of our sponsors. We are an entirely volunteer-run society, and all of the funds raised through sponsorship go towards putting on events like BSides and VanCitySec. It is important to us that we recognize the support of our sponsors, and show it off to our community who has made the event possible. Our sponsors' names and logos will be placed in prominent locations throughout the online venue. 

To ensure any organization can benefit from, and support our event, we have a variety of sponsorship levels available: Elite, Gold, Silver, and Bronze, as well as sponsorships for the conference coffee, lunch, and afterparty. These sponsorships provide the core support for our event and enable us to keep the doors open and the lights on each year.
